Death Defying Rides Over The Falls July 2011

Here are a few of the contraptions that people used to go over the falls.  Some died and those that lived were arrested.  Some even tried it more than once!  No thanks.

Niagara Falls New York July 2011

Words are inadequate to describe these wonderful falls.  Just enjoy the pictures and videos and few words.  The night photos were fun to take and very refreshing because the breeze was blowing the mist toward us and we were really needing the cooling down!

Sandusky Ohio July 2011

We had fun and some education at the Merry Go-Round Museum as you can see.

This lady works at the museum and is the carver for new animals and repairs others.

These are a few of her tools.
Here are some nicely painted 6 foot light-houses.  They even like art in their shrubbery.

Lithophanes at the Blair Museum in Toledo Ohio July 2011

This is almost a lost art.  These Lithophanes are so beautiful.  The images are created by limiting the amount of light that passes through a material.  By changing the thickness of the material the amount of light passing through creates a contrast.  The material used must be translucent for the effect to work.

The last 6 photos of these treasures were created by Hannah Blackwell.  She traveled overseas for extra training.  Enjoy!  We sure did.

I encourage you to click these photos to enlarge so you can see the detail.

Sorry, a little blurry.  As an example this is before back light is on.

Now with light.

The next are Hannah's.  See the difference in these two she carved?
